Mifflin, Thomas (1744-1800) Revolutionary War general; President of the Continental Congress; Signer of the U.S. Constitution; Governor of Pennsylvania. Partly-printed Document Signed as Governor of Pennsylvania ("Tho Mifflin"), vellum, no place, May 16, 1796, 11¼ x 21 in. A land grant to William Bingham for 1,100 acres in Lycoming County. The document has a beautiful, illustrated masthead and fancy state seals. Mifflin signed under the large paper seal at upper left. William Bingham was the founder and director of the first bank in the country, the Bank of North America. He also served in the Continental Congress, the Pennsylvania Assembly, and the U.S. Senate, and founded the city of Binghampton, New York. Normal folds and light toning, else Fine.
